Welcome to Busselton

Sheltered from strong prevailing winds at Cape Naturaliste, there is 30km of pristine beach to enjoy as well as the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.

Busselton is situated on the west coast of Australia's South West tourist region. Busselton faces north-west to the Indian Ocean and is on the shores of Geographe Bay where the ocean is very calm and sheltered. The Vasse River flows through Busselton to the ocean. One of the best ways to get to Busselton is to hire a car from Perth Airport or flying to Busselton Margeret River Airport.

What's the weather like?

Busselton has a Mediterranean climate with warm to hot summers and cool winters. Winter brings rainfall from cold fronts. For much of the year, clear skies prevail, making it ideal for a resort town. In summer (Dec-Feb), the average max temperature is 30°C, with a minimum of 16°C. In winter (Jun-Aug), the average max is 17°C, and the minimum is 8°C.

A bit of Busselton's history

In 1801, Nicholas Baudin’s French expedition named Geographe Bay, Cape Naturaliste, and the Vasse River. Busselton was founded in 1832 as "Vasse" by settlers, including the Bussell family, who described it as "a kind of paradise." The settlement grew with port facilities and exports, particularly horses to India. In 1835, the settlement was renamed Busselton after John Garrett Bussell.
