1849 Backpackers is in the middle of Albany overlooking the harbour and is the oldest hotel in Western Australia. 1849 is a large, beautifully refurbished building with all the modern amenities and includes a beautiful garden and several outdoor areas. WiFi is free, fast and unlimited. All big sporting events are shown live via Foxtel, and movies are free. To keep your valuables safe, we also have a lockup area for luggage and bikes. Outside we have a 4 a side football pitch and grassed volleyball court, while downstairs in the inside garden area we have a stage, table tennis and musical instruments for guests. Free, all-you-can-eat freshly made pancakes are cooked for guests every morning from 7am and we are open all hours. For all information and maps, please ask. We want you to have the best time and make the most of the seven beautiful National Parks surrounding Albany.

We have a range of hostel rooms available including dormitories, single, twin and double rooms available at both nightly and weekly rates. All of our WA accommodation is spacious, with quality mattresses, heaters, fans, quilts, and linen which is changed regularly during your stay. We pride ourselves on providing spotlessly clean hostel accommodation, with all rooms cleaned on a daily basis and any maintenance issues seen to immediately.

We have a big, comfortable common room overlooking the harbour where you can relax with a book, fit in a game of chess or get to know people by playing Twister.

Cancellation Policy

Terms & conditions if your plans change

Cancellation within 48 hours of arrival and no shows are charged for 1 night.

In addition Albany Visitors Centre applies a cancellation fee of $65 to all cancelled bookings.
50% deposit required at time of booking. Full amount required 30 days prior to arrival.
