Lane Poole Reserve

Description

The entry station to the park is 7.5 kilometres south of Dwellingup on Nanga Road. Most roads within the park are gravel and their condition will vary depending on the weather.

The Murray River flows through the park, which boasts around 500 species of native flora including old growth forests of jarrah and marri.

There are many beautiful walking trails along the Murray River banks. Both the Munda Biddi Trail and The Bibbulum Track pass through Lane Poole Reserve.

Camping

Lane Poole Reserve is very popular for camping with many different camping areas. Sites feature toilets, rubbish bins, picnic table and benches and a fireplace with a BBQ plates.

Wood is not supplied, but campers can buy wood on their way through either at the Service Station or opposite Nanga Road turnoff at the entry to the Reserve.

There is a total fire ban from 15 December to 30 April, so bring a gas BBQ during this time.

Campsites in the ‘new’ Baden Powell campgrounds include Charlies Flat, Chuditch, Stringers, Tonys Bend and Yarragil.

These sites are ideal for families and must booked online two days or more in advance. The larger campgrounds at old Baden Powell, Nanga and Nanga Mill are suitable for groups and cannot be booked in advance - they operate on a first come, first served basis.

Dogs are allowed in Lane Poole Reserve but must be kept on a leash at all times.

Baden Powell (also known as New Baden Powell)

The new Baden Powell was opened in 2013. It has three undercover camp kitchens with gas barbeques, cold water taps (collected rainwater), dishwashing sinks, food preparation surfaces and dining tables and benches.

Chuditch

Chuditch (along with Baden Powell) has more facilities than the other campgrounds in Lane Poole Reserve.

It has an undercover camp kitchen with gas barbeques, cold water taps (collected rainwater), dishwashing sinks, food preparation surfaces and dining tables and benches.

Stringers

Stringers is located along the Murray River and has just six camp sites that are only suitable for tents and are ideal for families.

Facilities include barbecues, tables, toilets, bins.

Tonys Bend

This site on the Murray River banks has 13 separate, individual camp sites that are suitable for tents. Ideal for families, Tony’s Bend offers barbecue pits, picnic tables, toilets and rubbish bins.

Yarragil

A busy day use area for canoeing and swimming, Yarragil is small and pretty with just two camp sites suitable for tents only. Picnic tables and toilet.

Charlies Flat

Popular for canoeing swimming and fishing, Charlies Flat is right on the banks of the Murray River.

There are 16 separate, individual camp sites with four of them large enough for small caravans or camper trailers. Equipped with bbq pits, picnic tables, toilets and rubbish bins.

Old Baden Powell (formerly Baden Powell)

Close to the Murray River, this is an open campground (without separate individual camp sites) that is ideal for small groups camping together.

Baden Powell has excellent facilities, good access to the river, and caters for caravans and other large vehicles. Facilities are barbecue pits, picnic tables, toilets and rubbish bins.

Nanga Townsite

Nanga Brook flows through this site which has six camp sites suitable for tents and campervans. There are picnic tables and benches and fireplaces with a barbeque plate.

Nanga Mill

The largest open campground in Lane Poole Reserve, Nanga Mill has space for 55 large tents, large campervans, camper trailers or caravans. Wood barbecues, toilets, bin and picnic tables are provided and water is also available.

Fees:

Adults: $7.00 per night

Children 6-15 years : $2.00 per night

Concession: $5.00 per night

Fees can be paid at entry station if rangers are there otherwise go through and pick a site and the rangers will catch up with and collect money.
